Unitech fails to deliver

with one comment

I got interested in researching on the  Indian builders and their never-ending projects since past some months. Every time I go back to India, I come across people waiting to move into their “NEW HOMES”, homes that are still-in-the-construction phase. When I say that they are being constructed I mean, that they are well past the delivery date. Two to three years wait has become a norm.  The brick and mortar heaps just does not seem to leave the construction sites!! The most shocking part is that naive customers have no-one to turn to with their complaints.

With this blog, I am looking for some answers to this growing problem. There has to be a way, through which these big builders could be held responsible for failing to deliver on time.

One such builder in India is Unitech Ltd. According to their website, http://www.unitechgroup.com,  it is a leading real estate developer in India. Well sure it is!! With incomplete projects and customers’ money at it disposal, it is indeed a leading and rich real estate developer.

Unitech is literally using it’s name in fooling people into investing their hard earned money in it’s crappy projects.

It’s project Verve in Greater Noida NCR), India, on papers (in the contract) was supposed to be completed in 2009 with apartments handed over to the respective customers the same year.  Unbelievably, it is 2011, and the apartments are no where near completion.

In the beginning of 2011, one of the owner of the apartment( no walls or wood work or a working lift), was told that he will get the possession in the second or third quater like some where between July and September. I like the term Unitech uses ” in a phase wise manner”. Well I am still not able to decode this term. As I talked to some in the Unitech management about this term, even they could not explain it.

Well to the shock of everyone reading this blog, Unitech has very shamelessly extended ownership date to next year.  They are always very nonchalant about the whole issue. I looked up for the meaning of nonchalant at http://thesaurus.com/browse/nonchalant and found synonyms like apathetic, detached, disinterested, unconcerned. Unitech has been sending similar negative vibes to it’s customers…

Till my next post…..research research and research before you put your money to buy a house from builders.
